INDIAN WALL HANGING PLAQUE OR PANEL. An interesting and attractive silvered (possibly chromed) brass panel of South Asian origin, possibly India, depicting a stylised lion on a raised oval central field, surround by elaborate pierced foliate detail. The rear of the panel has a wall hanging bracket soldered in place for display purposes. Date: early to mid 19th Century. The panel is of pressed brass construction, quite thin and flexes in hand.
The'silvering' is rubbed through to reveal brass on the high points of the rim and cartouche ribs and also the body of the lion. The rear of the panel appears to have antique tarnished colour but I suspect that it is an applied patinated finish. Dimensions: Width: 24.4 cm (9-5/8") Height: 35.6 cm (14").
