Nandi is the personal of. Or vahana, of the deity Shiva. As gatekeeper to Shiva and Parvati, a seated Nandi stands guard at the entrance of temples dedicated to Shiva throughout India.

The Nandi on offer here would have played a role every bit as important. As a vibrant participant in a rural village. Mela, a cultural, religious, and sports-related gathering and celebration. Even today Melas are of great importance to rural communities. Indeed, Nandi is widely celebrated throughout the subcontinent.
