Vintage Indian Reverse Glass Painting. Hindu Deity Vishnu Under Bodhi Tree
A large Indian Reverse Glass Painting of. One of the most venerated deities in Hindu mythology. Presented in an original v. Intage Art Deco period frame finished in a wave patterned, green and cappuccino colour palette. Depicted in this reverse glass painting is Vishnu, the second god in the Hindu triumvirate. Two being Brahma the creator, and Shiva the destroyer. Vishnu's role is to return to Earth in troubled times and restore the balance of good and evil and, to this end, he has appeared. This reverse glass painting may indeed be a reference to his ninth avatar, the Buddha under the Bodhi tree?
This is a vibrant example of Indian reverse glass painting, embellished with gold, and. Very much in the Indian tradition, in which generation after generation of painters recreate images that have gone before with, no doubt. Being used as inspiration in this respect. Tradition, an engraving is laid down on the back of the glass before water or gum arabic paints are applied. This is then fired in a kiln ensuring the paint bonds permanently with the glass.
