This is a vintage but possibly antique piece of silk/satin that is a square sort of shape and its been attached in a wooden frame going by the rusty nail markings on the edge. What it has been I do not know. It looks much better in your hand than my photographs show. I think it is worthy of being re-framed and hung on a wall again as it is really beautiful work. The time and energy that has gone into this is remarkable.
You can see all the threads on the back of the material. The back ground silky material is RIPE and pulls easy.. Even when I photographed it..
It is not very stable the main outer material. The padded body of the PEACOCK is nice and not falling to bits. It has been hand embroidered with vibrant coloured and bullion thread into the shape of a large peacock in the centre and then more bullion embroidered floral design corners. The background material is ripe and fairly frail from age but the embroidery is in really good condition and I can't see any damage anywhere.
No maker's marks etc. In collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. As mentioned, the background material is fairly frail, the edges are worn and the colour is faded. There is some discolouration on the back. Please see pictures for more details and visual confirmation of condition. 27 inches x 26 inches.
