An exquisite traditional indian damchiya, also known as a hope chest. Originally used by unmarried girls in anticipation for marriage with the purpose of storing, clothing, textiles and jewellery to give to the husband at the time of marriage. The practice of dowry is still widespread in India although officially prohibited. Made from solid teak and would be functional for dining, bedroom or living spaces. 158 x 120 x 50cm.
