Sourced from Bombay, this highly decorative horse head started life as the end of a heavy internal beam or in a doorway in a haveli, or merchant's mansion, circa 1850. These hand carved wooden sculptures are not only becoming increasingly difficult to source and have been painted in vibrant colours. In their previous incarnation, horse heads were also fixed to exterior door posts to ward off spirits and offer protection and strength for the occupants withi. This listing is for this.
