A RARE, PARTICULARLY LARGE, ANTIQUE INDIAN CHAKKI OR GRINDER TABLE. MADE IN THE TROPICAL HARDWOOD, TEAK, WITH ELEGANT HAND-CARVED DECORATION. THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE CYLINDER IS DECORATED WITH PARALLEL INCISED. HORIZONTAL LINES, THE LEGS REINFORCED WITH IRON BRACKETS AND BRASS STUDS. A REAL DECORATOR'S STATEMENT PIECE, DISPLAYING WONDERFUL PATINATION. In its previous incarnation this Chakki, or grinding table, would have carried the weight of two heavy circular grinding stones and been used as a home, do-it-yourself, flour mill. The upper cylinder rotating on the fixed lower cylinder to grind wheat into flour, legumes, dal, fresh roasted spices and the like. Actual grinding stones in an architectural salvage yard in the Thar desert are shown in the last two images. NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.
