This is a handsome pair of Native American Indian bookends. The Indian is crouched in front of a rock and holding his bird dog pointer. The Jennings Brothers Manufacturing foundery dates from 1893 and was located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The foundery specialized in "Nouveau" metal art. The Jennings Brothers made finely crafted bookends in the 1920s and1930s with experts artists and craftsmen.
Each of these exquisite bookends can stand alone as a great looking statue. Each bookend is 6 3/4 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep. They are in generally very good aged condition with well preserved color and a nice patina. Both bookends bear the original felt. The bookend pictured on the left has suffered a crack on the left side of the dog's neck which has previously been filled with white glue. There is a close-up of this repair in the last picture. Each bookend is marked JB 152 on the back. Each bookend is over 3 pounds, and, together, the pair weighs about 6 1/4 pounds.
