Nicely beaded on velvet this Chippewa cradleboard has classic curvilinear beaded patterns on black velvet on the main body and a loom section of beadwork on red velvet on the hood portion. The backboard and hood are made of wood. The beadwork looks to be c. 1920s The hide lashing and other ties are made of Indian brain tanned hide. There is a strip of an early printed cloth basting where the ties attach that looks to be c. Nice old patina on the wood and just a great looking example of a Chippewa board with NO RESERVE!
